"What do the recent OpenAI claim to have resolved the Clay Mathematics Institute Millennium Problem on Navier–Stokes, the quark-gluon plasma produced in relativistic heavy-ion collisions, black holes, and cosmology have in common? In this talk, I will review the remarkable recent progress in a nearly 300-year-old subject: hydrodynamics."
Alex Buchel is a Professor of Physics and Astronomy at Western University in Canada. He received his Ph.D. from Cornell University in 1999 and subsequently held research positions at the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics at UC Santa Barbara and the University of Michigan before joining Western in 2003. From 2003 to 2025, he was also Associate Faculty at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics. His research focuses on quantum aspects of black holes, the physics of the early Universe, and applications of string theory and holography to strongly interacting quantum systems.
