Anna Baum's research has an overarching goal of understanding and characterizing stellar behavior. This goal has spanned a variety of subfields. She studied chromospheric activity in Sun-like stars across extensive time baselines in order to quantify periodic activity cycles like the Sun's and search for anomalistic or unique behavior; this led to the first discovery of a star entering a Maunder Minimum similar to the Sun's. She also utilizes eclipsing binary star systems to measure parameters of stars, and has combined this work with asteroseismology, the study of stellar oscillations. Stellar oscillations are also used to measure stellar parameters, and are an especially powerful tool when found in eclipsing binaries.

Biography
Anna Baum received her Bachelor of Science in Astronomy & Astrophysics from Penn State University in 2020, with minors in Physics and English. She earned her PhD in Physics at Lehigh University in 2025, studying pulsating red giant stars in eclipsing binary systems. She served as a Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor of Physics at Widener University before returning to Lehigh as a Visiting Assistant Professor in 2026. Her research has focused on chromospheric stellar activity in Sun-like stars, eclipsing binary stars, and asteroseismology.

Professor Baum teaches Introduction to Astronomy (ASTRO 007), Introduction to Astronomy Laboratory (ASTRO 008) and Introduction to Planetary Astronomy (ASTRO 105).
