Research Statement

In Condensed Matter, our research has focused on the connection between the crystalline or amorphous and local chemical structure or atomic configurations in mixed composition compounds and their dynamical properties at the microscopic level, such as their phonon spectrum and local vibrational modes, the interaction between the two, and how this interaction affects their macroscopic properties.

In Optics/Fiber Optics, we have studied the optical properties of new glasses and of fibers drawn from these glasses, the propagation of light in novel optical structures such as photonic crystal fibers and photonic crystals and nonlinear optical effects in these.
