The central mission of Lehigh’s REU program is to expand access to and increase participation in physics research. Our program provides students with an in-depth exposure to research by immersing them in research groups engaged in cutting-edge work across a diverse range of physics fields. Participants receive a stipend and free group housing in a Lehigh dormitory. The program begins in early June and lasts for ten weeks. Each student is assigned to a faculty mentor before arrival on campus and works in the mentor’s research laboratory alongside faculty, postdocs, and graduate students. Students participate in weekly seminars, weekend outings, and at the conclusion of the program, each student presents their results in a research symposium.
Faculty working in the following research areas are accepting REU students in 2025:
High Energy Theory (Cremonini, Wrase)
High Energy Nuclear Experimental Physics (Reed, Knospe)
Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics (Sommer, Biaggio)
Biophysics and Soft Matter (Honerkamp-Smith, Vavylonis, Ou-Yang)
Condensed Matter Physics (Biaggio, Dierolf, Ekuma, Roy)
Computational Physics (Ekuma, Roy, Vavylonis)
Nonlinear Optics and Photonics (Biaggio, Dierolf)
Please see the linked websites of participating faculty and the information for our graduate program for recent publications and descriptions of current research projects.
Students interested in the Summer 2025 Lehigh Physics REU program can apply here. Application materials are due by February 3rd, 2025.
The mission of the REU program is to broaden participation in research by groups who are underrepresented in STEM fields. Therefore we strongly encourage applications from women, ethnic minorities, students with disabilities, first generation college students, and students whose home college does not provide Physics research opportunities. Previous research experience is not a requirement. Please reach out to reu@lehigh.edu with any questions.
